Past Projects

EMERGENCY RESPONSE: DIEGO MARTIN HIGHWAY & MACOYA BRIDGE, 2008

In 2008 Trinidad and Tobago was inundated with several extreme rainfall events. In one instance the East Bound section of the Macoya Bridge located along the Churchill Roosevelt Highway collapsed as the abutment’s foundation was undermined by the raging waters flowing along the river’s course. Coosal’s Construction Co. Limited in conjunction with the Ministry of Works and Transport (MOWT) was able to install two (2) bailey bridges together with construction run-on and run-off ramps within the space of 48 hours; a previously unprecedented feat. The flow of traffic resumed right after.

In another Instance similar extreme rainfall events resulted is a large section of the Diego Martin Highway being undermined and washed away. Once again we responded to the MOWT’s call and had the particular section in-filled with armour rock protection and resurfaced within 24 Hours.

These two projects are a testament to our organisation, expertise and capacity.

RECONSTRUCTION OF THE LA TINTA LIGHTHOUSE ACCESS ROAD, 1992

La Tinta is a small island off the North Coast of Trinidad. On the island the then Maritime Services Division of the MOWT operated a lighthouse. The access road linking the Lighthouse to the Jetty was previously constructed during World War 2 by the Americans. At the time the road was overgrown with vegetation and had deteriorated to such an extent as to make it impassable. Coosal’s was contracted to rehabilitate the access road. For the first time in Trinidad Hot Asphalt Mix was batched and loaded unto trucks in Trinidad and barged across to the island, laid and compacted all in conformance to the project specifications. Of note is the fact that we were able to prevent the temperature of the Hot Asphalt from dropping to an extent such that its quality was compromised.

RE-CONSTRUCTION OF THE 10 SOUTH TAXIWAY AT THE PIARCO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT 1994

Due to widespread failure of the pavement of the existing 10 South Taxiway, the Airports Authority of Trinidad & Tobago engaged the services of Coosal’s to demolish and remove and reconstruct entirely the 10 South Taxiway. The project was executed to rigorous and exacting specifications and standards and also involved the construction of new drainage structures within the site. All of the project deliverables were achieved and the project was completed within time scope and cost. Like all our other projects all of the raw material, viz: base, subbase and asphalt aggregates were produced at our own quarries.

CONSTRUCTION OF THE PRINCESS MARGARET HIGHWAY (NOW THE URIAH BUTLER HIGHWAY) 1980-83

Coosal’s was employed as the Main Subcontractor on the project with specific responsibility for the Pavement Construction and surfacing including the earthworks. This particular project entailed construction work in some of the most difficult ground conditions one could face as the pavement had to be constructed through the Caroni Swamp. Subsequent to construction the completed pavement stood for twenty five years as a testament to the quality of the workmanship and materials supplied. All the Concrete aggregates, base, sub-base and asphalt aggregates were produced at our own two quarries.

CONCRETE

Since inception the Group’s Concrete Subsidiary has grown significantly. Coosal’s Concrete Limited has consistently proven that it is the premier supplier of ready-mix concrete on the island. Our capacity is unmatched in the industry. With our commitment to quality and service Coosal’s Concrete Limited has accumulated a wealth of experience in this particular sub-sector of the construction industry.
